This collection centers around a cast of anthropomorphic creatures as they navigate the hardships of life, love, and dining out.
By depicting fantastical animals in mundane, everyday settings, I intend to give my work a lighthearted tone and to highlight some of the minor struggles and absurdity of everyday life. I don’t have a single source of inspiration, but I often draw from my own experiences and observations of people around me. For instance, a trip to a coffee shop with my dad inspired one of my pieces, while a juice company’s rebranding campaign inspired another.
I complete my work in the medium of linoleum block printmaking. Because I must manually carve and roll ink over every inch of the print’s surface to form a final image, the process of printmaking forces me to consider the image as a whole instead of simply focusing on the subject. Although this technique requires about a month of work per print, the printmaking process allows me to achieve a style that I could not attain through any other medium.
